Bas Nijhuis has a surprising new job. The referee will start as a wedding official, he announced on Instagram on Monday morning. In the post he says that he has been ‘officially sworn in’ as an Extraordinary Officer of the Civil Registry, BABS for short. Nijhuis, who is also already active as an entrepreneur, shows a photo of him on the social medium during his swearing in at the Amsterdam court.

De Tukker says that he is very much looking forward to working as a wedding official: “It is easy to combine and very nice to do”, Nijhuis explains on Monday in conversation with Veronica Inside. “I can also take the yellow and red cards with me, if they don’t say ‘yes’. The only difference is that I do this without VAR,” winks the 44-year-old arbitrator.
