Lutsharel Geertruida is going through a good season with Feyenoord, as he conquered a starting place and already scored eight times. Yet a twenty-year-old defender appeared little in the media, which has to do with the fact that he stutters. Geertruida now indicates it Algemeen Dagblad and The Telegraph his first newspaper interview, after he previously gave an interview to Feyenoord Magazine.

Geertruida wants to be there according to it Algemeen Dagblad to make sure that he is asked about the stuttering in every interview. “But I also understand that it is being asked about in this first interview. I never felt that stuttering could endanger my football career. Nor does it hinder me on the field or in the locker room. An interview, especially in front of a camera, is another story, ”the defender says. “I am quite busy in the locker room.”

Despite being trained as a center-back, Geertruida is now breaking through as a right back. “Of course every player has his favorite position, but for now this is fine. This is the time to break through and make a lot of minutes. That’s the most important thing for me now. In the long term I hope to play in the ashes of the field ”, says the youth international. Last month, he was allowed to report in the European Championship selection of the Dutch Juniors at the last moment, because Jurriën Timber was absent. Normally, he also has to tolerate Deyovaisio Zeefuik in the pecking order, while national coach Erwin van de Looi posted Jordan Teze as right back against Young Germany.

“There are a lot of right backs in my age category. You also have Devyne Rensch from Ajax and Sherel Floranus from Heerenveen. The fact that I was not part of the European Championship selection at first was a disappointment. But I quickly switched the switch ”, says Geertruida. In the future, he could also choose an international career with Curaçao. “My agent has been called, but it is too early to think about it. Of course Curaçao is also in my heart. And with Guus Hiddink as national coach, they are doing well. But I set the bar high. ”
