After the disappointing draw at Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie, Ajax would like to continue its strong performance in the Champions League. Just like two weeks ago, Borussia Dortmund is the opponent in this. Ajax can qualify for the knockout phase of the Champions League for the first time since the successful 2018/19 season. With a win over Borussia Dortmund, Ajax is in any case through, while in that case it is also assured of the first place if Sporting Portugal does not beat Besiktas. Erik ten Hag’s team is still clear this campaign with nine points from three matches. However, the team from Amsterdam has never taken the full loot from the first four group matches of a Champions League season. In addition, there is another first for Ajax: it has never scored at least twice in four consecutive Champions League matches. Ajax can also provide good figures defensively. After three matches Remko Pasveer only had to fish once. For the first time since November 2011, Ajax can keep a clean sheet in three Champions League matches in a row.

Although Borussia Dortmund was outclassed by Ajax 4-0 in the Johan Cruijff Arena, the strong performances in their own Signal Iduna Park will provide the necessary confidence. The Germans have remained unbeaten in the last ten home matches played in the group stage of the Champions League (seven wins and three draws). This series was started after the 1-2 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2017. Dortmund has to do without top scorer Erling Braut Haaland. BVB however, remained unbeaten in the first three Champions League matches without the Norwegian. Last season it was 1-1 against Lazio, 1-2 visiting Zenit St Petersburg and in the second round of the current campaign, Sporting was defeated 1-0 thanks to a goal from his fellow striker Donyell Malen.

Will the top scorer of this Champions League season walk around at Ajax? Sébastien Haller keeps all the top strikers behind with six goals so far (Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah made five). The Ajax striker was accurate in every match and could become the fifth player ever to be accurate in each of his first four Champions League appearances. Zé Carlos (1993), Alessandro Del Piero (1995), Diego Costa (2014) and Haaland (2019) already managed to achieve this. Haller can once again shoot himself in the Amsterdam history books: he can become the first Ajax player ever to score in four consecutive CL matches.

Will Sébastien Haller make history again? Check here the odds for a goal from the Ajax striker.
