Kenneth Perez does not have a good word to say about Mike te Wierik’s performance against sc Heerenveen on Sunday evening. During the Eredivisie game with the Frisians (1-1), the left back was sent off after two yellow cards, and that led to a lot of annoyance with the analyst. Also in football terms, Te Wierik’s game was below par in the eyes of Perez, who believes that the 29-year-old left-back only had ‘mindless’ balls and tackles in his house.

“Kenneth, you were annoyed by Te Wierik”, says the presenter of the program This was the weekend by ESPN Jan Joost van Gangelen. “To Wierik? That’s quite an irritating player to watch,” said Perez. “Look, it’s okay if you can’t play football well, and indeed he can’t. He is right back, although I think he is more of a center defender. Anyway, this is his contribution to the game: giving a bit of brainless balls”, Perez says while watching images of some unfortunate passes by Te Wierik.

“You know yourself that you are not good and you want to compensate for that with hard work and dedication, but even then you can use your brain. He wants to add something because he can’t play football very well, but come on. He is also a fairly experienced player. It’s okay if you’re not that good, because with effort you can really go very far. But this really doesn’t make any sense,” said Perez, who was particularly annoyed by the way the two cards were created.

Ten minutes before the break, Te Wierik already escaped a card when he made a tackle from behind on Joey Veerman near the midline. “Very special”, says Perez. In the end, Te Wierik received his first yellow card in the seventieth minute of play after a disturbance. More than six minutes before the end of regular time, the defender took his second yellow and therefore red card when he knocked down Veerman on the edge of the sixteen-meter area. “Bad income and completely wrong estimate”, concludes the analyst curtly.
