The transfer from André Onana to Internazionale could be closed quickly. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian top club has officially contacted Ajax to take over the goalkeeper free of transfer next summer. The transfer expert states that the transfer from the Cameroonian to Inter has never been in danger. Onana would even have left the Cameroon training camp to sign.

The Ajax goalkeeper is currently in his native country for participation in the Africa Cup, which starts on January 9. Cameroon will immediately face Burkina Faso on the first day of play. Inter’s interest has been known for a long time. The goalkeeper and Ajax were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract at the beginning of last year. The goalie was in the middle of his doping suspension at the time, and although Ajax continued to pay his salary, the goalkeeper was not prepared to sign a new contract with an improved salary.

Onana is therefore free to talk to other clubs from January 1, as his contract in Amsterdam expires next summer. Fabrizio Romano previously reported a personal agreement between Onana and Inter. It was only a matter of paperwork before the transfer could be finalized, the journalist said. The latter now seems to be the case, as Inter has officially communicated to Ajax that it wants to take over the closing item transfer-free next summer. In the spring, director of football affairs Marc Overmars announced that the negotiations had finally stalled.

At the end of last year, Onana emphasized that Barcelona, the club he served in his youth, is still his dream destination. Romano emphasizes, however, that a return to the Catalan top club is not an option for the closing post departing from Ajax. The fact that there was open discussion in the media about an oral agreement between Ajax and Onana was against the goalkeeper’s sore leg. “People talk about a lot of things, including Arsenal and Barcelona,” he told Sport. “At the moment there is nothing going on.”
