Internazionale and Radja Nainggolan are separating immediately, the Italian club announced on Tuesday afternoon through the official channels. The Belgian midfielder is leaving Milan permanently after being loaned out to Cagliari twice. Nainggolan was taken over by Inter from AS Roma in 2018, but never managed to leave a lasting impression. Sky Sports ensures that both parties are heading for ‘a good exit’.

Internazionale announces that it has reached an agreement with Radja Nainggolan about the termination of the contract. The Belgian’s contract ran until next summer. The early departure of Nainggolan from Inter is anything but out of the blue, as the midfielder has not been in the plans of the reigning champions for a number of years. The thirty-time Belgian international returned from a first rental period at Cagliari last summer, but was in no way able to convince trainer Antonio Conte of his added value.

The coach called on Nainggolan in only four league matches last season, who also struggled with physical discomfort. The club then decided to re-let him to Cagliari in the winter. After four and a half years in Sardinia, Nainggolan was sold to AS Roma in January 2014 for fifteen million euros. Nainggolan also prospered in the Italian capital: he was an undisputed base player with the Romans for five seasons, until he was sold to Internazionale in 2018 for no less than 38 million euros.

From then on, Nainggolan’s career went downhill. Although he was almost always guaranteed his starting spot in his first year, his performance was not what Inter club management had expected. In his first loan spell at Cagliari, he scored 6 goals in 26 league appearances. From January, Nainggolan started competing with Razvan Marin, who was hired by Cagliari from Ajax. The latter was definitively taken over from Ajax this summer.
