Internazionale has suffered an unbelievably big loss in the 2020/21 season. The reigning Italian champion reports a net loss of 245 million euros and calculates that the club has missed out on 110 million euros as a result of the corona crisis. At the same time, Inter has succeeded in signing Lautaro Martínez with three years until mid-2026, with which the club makes an important sporting move.

The official announcement of the new contract for Martínez is expected on Friday, Fabrizio Romano knows. With the extension, Inter is taking an important step towards the future. Partly due to the corona crisis, the club is struggling with major financial problems and as a result had to say goodbye to its star players Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku last summer, who were sold to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea for sixty and one hundred million euros respectively. The revenues of the star players will not be processed until the coming financial year.

In August, it seemed for a while that Martínez would also be sold, when Italian media reported express interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The usually reliable The Times Even spoke of an agreement between Inter and the Londoners on a transfer fee of seventy million euros for Martínez. During that period, Arsenal was also mentioned in England as an interested club, but it soon became apparent that Inter had no intention of selling Martínez. There had been an oral agreement for several months about a new contract for the attacker, which has now been formalized.

Martínez has been an extremely successful couple with Lukaku in recent years and now fills a similar role in the attack alongside Edin Dzeko, who was brought in as the Belgian’s replacement. Martínez is personally having a good season with five goals and an assist in nine league games. In total, the South American, who came over from Racing Club for 25 million euros in 2018, has 144 official matches for Inter, in which he scored 54 times and provided 21 assists.
