Internazionale took third place in the Serie A more firmly on Sunday afternoon. The team of trainer Simone Inzaghi barely impressed, but was 2-0 too strong for Udinese at home. Joaquín Correa accounted for both Milan goals, doubling his season total. The second goal was preparatory work by Denzel Dumfries, who, unlike Stefan de Vrij, did have a base place.

With a view to the Champions League match against Sheriff Tiraspol, Inzaghi chose not to start with the strongest eleven. In addition to De Vrij, who could have played his two hundredth game, Lautaro Martínez and Matteo Darmian also took place on the reserve bench. The first half was barely worth watching and both teams were able to create opportunities in dribs and drabs. Nicolò Barella ran into Marco Silvestri and Andrea Ranocchia aimed over. Also a second attempt by Barella could not be promoted to goal after half an hour of play.

As boring as the first half was, so entertaining was the second act. After an hour of play, Inter took the deserved lead when Correa took off on the left, pulled in and hit the short corner: 1-0. The home team was lord and master in the first quarter of the second half and quickly got the opportunity to open the score via Edin Dzeko, but the striker ran into Silvestri. The rebound was not spent on Dumfries, who saw his bet removed from the line by a Udinese defender.

Not much later, the second Milanese goal would follow. Dumfries kept the overview on the right side of the field and enabled Correa to make his second of the afternoon. The attacker checked, put the ball well in front of himself and found the left intersection: 2-0. Inzaghi then brought Alexis Sánchez and Arturo Vidal in the line and saw the latter just wide on a pass from Dzeko. Martínez was also allowed ten minutes of playing time, but nothing changed in the score, partly due to a rejected goal by Udinese.
