Donny van de Beek will miss the European Championship, the KNVB reports. The Manchester United midfielder is struggling with an injury and will not recover in time for the tournament. National coach Frank de Boer does not call for a replacement for Van de Beek, who did not play in the past two exhibition games of the the Dutch. Last Sunday against Georgia (3-0 win), the ex-Ajacied was in the stands.

The nineteen-time the Dutch international hardly got to play at Manchester United last season, so the question was whether he would be in the final 26-man European Championship selection. Despite a lack of playing time at his club, De Boer chose to take Van de Beek to the European Championship. He did not play against Scotland (2-2) and on Sunday he was not in the selection for the game against Georgia.

On Monday, it turned out during the the Dutch training that Van de Beek was struggling with an injury. He trained separately from the group with the injured Matthijs de Ligt. A day later, it was announced that Van de Beek is out of circulation for the time being and therefore cannot play at the European Championship, which starts for the Netherlands on Sunday with a match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA against Ukraine (9 p.m.).

Van de Beek last played in the shirt of the Dutch national team against Gibraltar (0-7 win). In that World Cup qualifier, the midfielder signed for his third goal in the service of the Netherlands. Previously, he was accurate in the Nations League against Italy (1-1) and in the friendly against Spain (1-1). It was previously announced that Virgil van Dijk (injury) and Jasper Cillessen (corona) will not go to the European Championship with the the Dutch.
