Kjell Scherpen will play for Brighton and Hove Albion in the coming seasons. The Premier League club reached an agreement with Ajax on Friday, which, according to reports from The Telegraph receives an amount of around five million euros. Scherpen has now completed his first training in England, where it is mainly about a possible record. Should Scherpen make playing minutes in the Premier League, he will become the tallest player ever at the highest level in England.

On arrival in Brighton and Hove, Scherpen was immediately in front of the camera, where he was asked a question about teammate Dan Burn. The latter is currently the tallest player in Brighton’s selection at 1 meter 98. “The first day I came here I was immediately asked if I am taller than Dan Burn,” Scherpen tells the Brighton club channel. “I think I’m quite a bit taller. We met and talked, we talk on the same level. Those were nice conversations.”

Should Scherpen, who has a height of 2 meters and 3 centimeters, make playing minutes in the Premier League, he will become, together with Costel Pantilimon and Lacina Traoré, the tallest player ever at the highest level in England. Pantilimon has played for Manchester City and Watford in the past, while Traoré wore the Everton shirt. “I think I only really started to grow from the age of sixteen or seventeen,” Scherpen explains his enormous height. “Before that it was normal, I wasn’t particularly tall. When I started playing football I was even a field player for the first two years, then I started goalkeeping. I never stopped.”

Scherpen meets another former Ajax player at Brighton with Joël Veltman. “We’ve spoken a few times. He has only told good stories. About how the people are here and how Brighton wants to play,” continues Scherpen. “First impressions are good. I would like to make minutes in the Premier League, that is the main goal. I would be very happy to make my appearance at the highest level. That will be a great challenge for me. see how it goes.”
