Latest update:

Yankuba Minteh does not plan to get his driver's license in the Netherlands, the nineteen-year-old Feyenoord attacker says Football International. The Newcastle United loanee lived in Gambia two years ago, which according to him is known as a cycling country. As a result, Minteh, who has been in excellent shape in recent weeks, is in no hurry to get his driver's license.

Anyone walking through South Rotterdam can easily encounter Minteh on his bicycle. While his teammates all come to training in a sponsored BMW, the lightning-fast winger drives to training on his two-wheeler. “I don't have a driver's license yet,” Minteh reveals VI.

Minteh has no problem with the fact that he, as the only adult Feyenoord selection player, does not own a car. “I like cycling. It's just so cold in the Netherlands, there's always rain or wind. In Gambia I took my bike to ride to the beach or something. Always the sun. In the Netherlands I have to deal with different circumstances. Not that nice, but it is what it is.”

The question remains where Minteh will play next season. Feyenoord hopes to rent the left leg from Newcastle United for another season, while he himself is open to that. A conversation will follow in April between Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese and the Magpies. Even if he continues to play at De Kuip for another season, Minteh will continue to use his bicycle. “I'll get my driver's license in England. At least then I'll immediately learn to drive on the left side. Until then, I'll just keep cycling.”

Minteh leaves the decision about next season to himself. “Ultimately the Premier League is my goal and Newcastle United is the club that has a lot of confidence in me. I have no idea what the future looks like. I was in Newcastle once, when they played against Borussia Dortmund. I will soon hear what plans the club has for me.”

The winger is in no hurry. “I'm still young, I have time, maybe they will want to rent me out again. I don't know yet, I hear it, I let everything come to me. All I know is that one day I will play in the Premier League,” said the patient Minteh.

Minteh has played 1,380 minutes for Feyenoord since his arrival last summer, spread over 28 appearances. The Gambian scored eight goals and three assists. Transfer market estimates its current market value at around 8 million euros. That is exactly the amount that Newcastle United transferred to Odense Boldklub in July to sign Minteh until mid-2028.
