Iliass Bel Hassani returns to the Eredivisie. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a one-year contract with RKC Waalwijk, with the option of another year at the club from North Brabant. Bel Hassani will be on the training field of RKC for the first time this Thursday. He signed a contract with Ajman Club from the United Arab Emirates in March, but that adventure did not last long.

“Iliass is a creative midfielder with specific, attacking qualities,” says general manager Frank van Mosselveld in a response to the club site on Thursday. “This, together with his experience at home and abroad, is an added value for RKC. The drive and ambition that he has shown us, means that we as RKC Waalwijk are delighted to welcome Iliass.”

Bel Hassani started his career at Sparta Rotterdam and continued playing in the Netherlands for Heracles Almelo, AZ, FC Groningen and PEC Zwolle. The latter club left the midfielder in January 2020 for Qatar’s Al-Wakrah SC. However, the coronavirus outbreak soon threw a spanner in the works, as the competition was shut down. When the midfielder later also lost his starting place, the adventure in Qatar was quickly over. Both parties came to the conclusion after ten months that it was better to end the collaboration, despite an ongoing contract. Bel Hassani left Al Wakrah with two goals in four games to his name. He made an assist in four appearances for Ajman Club.
