Around Mohamed Ihattaren ‘all options are open’, says PSV technical manager John de Jong. Last season, the attacking midfielder had a difficult relationship with trainer Roger Schmidt, which has led to speculation for months about a transfer this summer. For the time being, however, Ihattaren still plays for PSV. His contract expires next year and therefore nothing is certain about his future.

De Jong calls Ihattaren’s situation ‘a difficult one’. “September 1, the transfer market closes this summer. If he is still here, anything can happen,” the technical manager tells fan magazine The PSV Supporter. He is referring to options such as a winter transfer, a transfer-free contract or a contract extension in Eindhoven. A switch in the current transfer window cannot be ruled out either. “Whether he goes with Mark van Bommel to VfL Wolfsburg? Wolfsburg does have a Champions League budget, so it could just be.” Wolfsburg qualified as number four in Germany for the Champions League last season.

“The scales fell off the eyes at PSV when Ihattaren came on the field”

Ihattaren has been cautiously associated with Wolfsburg for some time now. Van Bommel fueled those rumors last week when he called Ihattaren a “top player” during his presentation as coach of the Bundesliga club. “Of course he’s always associated with me because I’ve worked with him. He played well with me, he had a hard time last season. So wherever I go, Mo will always be mentioned,” said Van bumblebee. “He’s just a good guy, who I just get along with. Or could it be? Who knows. We’re always interested in good players.”

De Jong is also not ruling out anything at the moment. “No kidding, we are in a situation where a player still has a one-year contract. In that situation, all possibilities are open. That is true. So yes, signing up is still an option. In any case, we have not given up on him yet And we won’t as long as he’s our player.” Ihattaren is currently with PSV at a training camp in Marienfeld, Germany. On Saturday, journalist Valentijn Driessen said of The Telegraph that the youngster looks ‘horribly toned’ after he was criticized last season for being too heavy.
