PSV’s game against Go Ahead Eagles (2-0) did not really appeal to Kenneth Perez, but Cody Gakpo was an exception. The captain of the Eindhoven team showed, according to the analyst of ESPN here and there his exceptional class and also decided the match by scoring the second goal.

“If you’re looking at a match like that, in which the difference in power is too big, then I’ll pay attention to Gakpo,” said Perez at half-time. “If you’re talking about a quality player… How he passes, how he passes someone on strength! It’s not just crosses and see where the ball lands, no, it’s really…” Perez stopped finishing that sentence , but was referring to a low pass from Gakpo towards Yorbe Vertessen, who thus had a huge chance just before half-time. However, the Belgian mowed wildly.

Gakpo also thought afterwards that PSV did not play great. “It was important for us that we just won this one and finish at the top in the first half of the season,” said the left winger. “You certainly want to do it spectacularly, but that was not possible today. Then it is important that you just grab him and we did that. They gave good resistance. Fortunately, we scored quickly, but in the end we won it commercially. We didn’t play it very well, but in the end it’s 2-0. Then we can enjoy Christmas.”

Gakpo was asked to look back at the first half of the season, in which PSV crowned themselves winter champion. “I think we could and should have played some games better,” said the attacker. “But in the end we also have to be at the top at the end of the competition. We will work hard for that when we come back.” Finally, Gakpo had a message for the fans of PSV: “I want to thank everyone for the support, even if you were at home. At the beginning of the season it was of course full, we enjoyed you as long as you were there. Hope to see you all again soon. Enjoy the Holidays, Happy New Year.”
