Sven Botman makes conversation with L’Equipe known to really want to leave Lille OSC after this season. The 22-year-old defender was strongly associated with AC Milan and Newcastle United over the winter, but remained loyal to the French. In the summer, Botman will once again weigh up all the offers he receives. “If it goes as planned, I will leave after this season,” Botman told the newspaper.

Botman seemed to leave Lille in January due to the explicit interest of mainly AC Milan. However, the center defender was forced to remain loyal to his French employer. “I accepted that Lille wouldn’t let me go in January,” said Botman. “There were offers from other clubs, but we were still playing in the Champions League at that time. We were also better in Ligue 1. I think the offers will come again after the season.” A transfer to i Rossoneric is still ahead.

Shocked in the first season that Botman played at Lille after he was taken over from Ajax for eight million euros lesson Dogues France by trumping Paris Saint-Germain and taking home the title. This season, Lille is a lot less prosperous: the club from northern France finds itself in ninth place. “We are having trouble with defensive teams this season, just like last season. Last year, however, we had less trouble scoring. We also lost a lot of experience and we had a lot of injuries in the team”, Botman sums up.

“I don’t want to look for excuses. We are currently ninth in the league, which is just not good enough for a club like Lille. We are very dissatisfied with that, but I don’t think it’s a failed season.” Botman is clear about his own future after this season. “If it goes as planned, I will leave after this season. I first want to finish the season well for Lille, the club deserves that. After that, we’ll see, at least I haven’t decided anything yet,” Botman concludes.
