There is still no clarity about the future of Danny Buijs at FC Groningen. The coach has been performing erratically with his team this season and has been in the kicker for some time. Nevertheless, the performance interviews are not planned until after the winter break. Buijs himself hopes to leave the club through the front door, he indicates in an interview with RTV North.

Buijs is not surprised that FC Groningen has not yet sat down with him. “We had a number of conversations with each other around the summer, in which we clearly agreed to talk after the winter break. That’s how we agreed and that’s how it is then,” says the trainer of the Groningers. Last year Buijs was frequently praised and put away as a tactical brain, but this season he just can’t get away from the lower regions of the Eredivisie. His team is twelfth.

“That could just be, because the talks with the club management have yet to come”, Buijs answers when asked whether he is taking into account a departure from Groningen. “If the majority of the supporters or volunteers would rather have a different trainer for the group next year, it is very simple and I will be gone in the summer anyway.”

“I say that because my bond with this club and the support I’ve had from these people, especially in the early days, has been so extreme,” Buijs continues. The former midfielder became a crowd favorite in the Euroborg between 2004 and 2006 and hopes to leave the club in a good way. “I am so grateful to them for doing everything I can to get out of here in a dignified way and not through a back door in the meantime.”
