Aad de Mos would like to see Santiago Arias back at PSV. The former trainer of the Eindhoven team believes that technical manager John de Jong would do well to strengthen the selection of trainer Roger Schmidt in the back positions. With Phillipp Mwene, PSV got a back who can play on both flanks, but De Mos is not impressed by his qualities.

De Mos thinks that PSV will have a problem at right back after Denzel Dumfries’s departure to Internazionale, despite the presence of Jordan Teze and Mwene. “I also think that if Philipp Max gets an injury on the left, you need something there,” said De Mos on the website of the club. Eindhovens Dagblad. PSV watcher Rik Elfrink emphasizes that Mwene can play on both the left and the right. “But he doesn’t reach the level of Dumfries or Arias,” says De Mos. “Arias, for example, is a type I would like to see back here.”

Arias played for PSV from 2013 to 2018. The 29-year-old right-back left for Atlético Madrid for eleven million euros, where he had to settle for a supporting role. In the 2020/21 season, he was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen. However, during an international match with Colombia, he suffered a serious injury to his fibula, which put him out of action for months. “Arias has now recovered from his injury,” De Mos says. “I think he is transfer-free at Atlético Madrid (contract until mid-2023, ed.), so I would think of such a type.”

Unlike Mwene, Armando Obispo makes a good impression on De Mos. The center defender was given a basic place on Saturday against Heracles Almelo (0-2 win). “He is a boy who was already among the better in youth,” said De Mos about the 22-year-old defender. “I once compared him to De Ligt. He may be a late bloomer. Positionally he is also strong, he does not do strange things. He knows exactly where the danger of the strikers comes from. He is also quite fast. I think he’s a pretty complete defender.”
