Johan Derksen has good things to say about Frank de Boer as national coach of the Dutch national team. The analyst gave up on Thursday evening in the program ‘De Oranjezomer’ SBS6 to know that the trainer ‘is superficial in life’ and that he ‘hasn’t grown at all’. Derksen also does not like the choice to include Quincy Promes in the European Championship selection. The attacker is still awaiting criminal proceedings over a stabbing incident in which he may have been involved.
“I find this national coach shocking,” Derksen emphasized in the television program. “He is so superficial in life. You shouldn’t put moral considerations in his mouth, because he doesn’t have any. One of the big blunders is to bring in that man (Promes, ed.). A man involved in a stabbing. He should not represent the Netherlands in an international match. You have to be merciless about that. Besides, you don’t even need him as a footballer.”
“How Mr. De Boer deals with serious subjects, that’s all being battalized. He does the same with Qatar”, Derksen referred to the controversial choice for years to have next year’s World Cup organized by that country. “His brother Ronald is even employed to promote that. I find that so shabby. De Boer once did well at Ajax, became national champion four times and then you think that people are going to develop. Communicating was never his forte.”
“He went down in Italy, in England and in the United States. He hasn’t grown at all. It’s just bumbling. I don’t think it’s a figurehead of the KNVB. I find it disappointing how he behaves.” Table mate Dick Advocaat did not know whether or not he would have taken Promes to the tournament. “I find it difficult to say anything about that. I think De Boer knows more than we do,” said the former national coach of the Dutch national team.
Derksen also questioned the choice of Promes to give an interview this week, a few days before the start of the European Championship.
