PSV did not get further than a disappointing 1-1 draw against Heracles Almelo on Sunday and a day later the choices of trainer Roger Schmidt are questioned. In Twente, the coach chose to change his starting eleven in several places compared to the game won against NS Mura in the Europa League and kept Donyell Malen and Ryan Thomas on the bench, among others.

Club icons René and Willy van de Kerkhof question Schmidt’s choices: “It was a disappointing match. I just can’t follow him. On Thursday you win in the Europa League with 5-1 and then you take out three or four basic players for the next match ”, Willy van de Kerkhof says in conversation with Broadcasting Brabant.

Schmidt reportedly made these choices because of the artificial turf field on which to play in Almelo, the serious injuries that Malen and Thomas have just left behind and the busy schedule of his team. However, René van de Kerkhof does not think that this is the right way to act: “You have those players, you just have to set them up. It was just insipid Sunday. Very moderate. I have a hard head for Thursday, against Rosenborg BK (in the Europa League, ed.). That is different from Heracles. ”

His brother adds that it is easier to play football if a team is on the field in a fixed composition for longer and the players therefore become more attuned to each other: “When others start playing football, this becomes increasingly difficult. They have a different playing style. And if you’re never sure of your place, I think that also gives a bit of frustration. Because you don’t know if you play every week, even if you play well. ”
