Latest update:

Christian Eriksen is not satisfied with his current role at Manchester United. The midfielder recently reported this to trainer Erik ten Hag, Eriksen told the Danish medium Tipsbladet. The former Ajax player would like to play more.

Ten Hag recently has a wide selection of midfielders at Manchester United. Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat recently returned from injuries and in the person of Kobbie Mainoo, the manager has an option who was not yet part of the first selection at the start of the season.

Furthermore, Scott McTominay, Mason Mount and Eriksen can also function as one of the two controlling midfielders in Ten Hag's 4-2-3-1 system. Due to the excess of players in the 6 position, the Dane does not get to play much, much to his own frustration.

“I have said before that I am not satisfied with the fact that I am not playing, but it is not something that keeps me awake at night,” says Eriksen. “The team is performing and I have to respect the role I have. I have to focus on working hard and being fit for every game, and that's what I am.”

“I spoke to Erik about my dissatisfaction with the situation and I said that I want to play as much as possible,” Eriksen continued. “For now I am available to the team and I always will be.”

“You can worry about the long term, because I want to play as much as possible. Obviously you don't want to sit on the bench.” The 126-time international says he can nevertheless understand Ten Hag's choice not to field him often. “You don't change much about a winning team and I have to respect that.”

Eriksen has been under contract at Old Trafford since the summer of 2022. The Red Devils took him over on a free transfer from Brentford, where the creative had restarted his career after his cardiac arrest at the 2021 European Championship.
