Calvin Stengs can go to Lazio for an amount of approximately 12 million euros, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier this week on behalf of the Italian branch of Sky Sports. Mike Verweij, journalist from The Telegraphhowever, believes that Feyenoord should not let the creative go for that amount, he said Kickoff.

“I think that if you have a player who is so close to the Dutch national team, you should never let him go for an amount of 12 million,” Verweij opens. “For the same money, Koeman would have called him up as one of the replacements for De Jong or Koopmeiners.”

“But about twelve players have been dropped from the Dutch national team,” responds Valentijn Driessen. “And then Koeman still doesn't get to Stengs, so you have to wonder how close he is to it.”

“They got him for 6 to 7 million, I believe,” Verweij continues. “I think Stengs is a really good football player. I really wouldn't let that one go.”

“Of course they bought that Nadje,” Driessen continues. “It just seems that the intention was that they would gradually bring him behind Stengs.” Feyenoord took over the midfielder this week for half a million euros from Versailles FC, which plays in the third level of France.

“But if such an amount is offered for a player that you have brought in for relatively little money, then I can imagine that from a business point of view you say: 'yes',” says Driessen.

“But then you still have to have players within your selection who can absorb that or bring in a worthy replacement. That is of course the question, because it should not make you much weaker. Stengs was one of the few creative players at Feyenoord,” Driessen concludes.
