Johan Derksen concludes that Myron Boadu is not good enough for AS Monaco. The twenty-year-old striker, who was taken over from AZ for eighteen million euros last summer, was unable to impress the analyst in the two Europa League games against PSV. Veronica Inside. “Do you know that I felt sorry for Boadu?”, Derksen said. “He just can’t handle it. He’s just not good enough.”

Boadu scored in the first game in Eindhoven (1-2 for Monaco), but also missed great opportunities in that game. Last Thursday, the opportunities, which appeared dangerous several times, were also not spent on Boadu. Valentijn Driessen is also critical. “You were the first to say that that will of course be nothing at Monaco,” the journalist tells table companion René van der Gijp. “If you see a few moments yesterday… he can make a difference, but he just doesn’t have it. He trips over the ball…”

“He only starts thinking about what he is going to do with the ball when he has accepted the ball,” Van der Gijp analyzes. “But you have to think much sooner of: Well, I gotta keep those two defenders away. You have to decide that quickly.” Derksen believes that Boadu can only be used in one way. “He is only dangerous if he is launched into the depth and if he can run. And then you have to wait and see if he finishes it.” Driessen adds: “Yes, if he touches it twice in between, he won’t finish it.”

“AZ was really the ceiling for that boy, it now appears,” concludes Derksen, who is not impressed by AS Monaco in any case. “I didn’t like the smell or taste of all of that Monaco. There wasn’t one player in it that I thought: well that’s a nice footballerDriessen answers: “That Sofiane Diop, who scored in Eindhoven, that is still a nice player.”

On Friday it was announced that Boadu has not been included in the selection of the Dutch Juniors. The statement by national coach Erwin van de Looi, who accuses the striker of a lack of ‘attitude and ambition’, is not accepted by Driessen. “Why does he have to say that about it?”, the journalist wonders. “I don’t think so, because he just kicks him into the ground extra. But they are good at that at the KNVB sometimes.” Derksen fully agrees: “And this Van de Looi in particular, because he plays a bit of Louis van Gaal. He must be very happy with this job, because no club is interested in him anymore.”
