In Brazil’s Ronaldo’s view, it is not a foregone conclusion that Paris Saint-Germain will win the Champions League, despite the presence of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The current president of Real Valladolid compares the star team of PSG with his own period as a player for Real Madrid. Between 2002 and 2007, despite the presence of many star players, Ronaldo never managed to win the billion-dollar ball.
“It is too early to announce a winner of the Champions League now,” Ronaldo opens in a program of DAZN called ‘El Presidente’. “We can only carefully draw up a balance from the quarter-finals. PSG is in pole position, but the high expectations must first be fulfilled on the field. There are a number of factors in the field that influence the course of events. I played for Real Madrid for almost five seasons, in the Galácticos team, and never won the Champions League during that time. Winning is not a mathematical thing, even if you have the best players. Mbappe may, like Ronaldo, one day make the switch to Real. However, the French attacker is still under contract with PSG for the time being. The Valladolid president does not think it is very strange that he is often compared to Ronaldo. “Mbappe has similar characteristics. He has amazing qualities and a remarkable technique that he also uses at top speed. He runs away from defenders and is not afraid to go head-to-head with goalkeepers. And despite his young age (22 years, ed.), Mbappé has already come a long way. I am certainly charmed by him.”
PSG will reach the final of the Champions League in 2020. The final battle ended in deception, as Bayern Munich proved too strong 0-1. Last season, the team of coach Mauricio Pochettino was no match for Manchester City in the semi-finals. In the group stage of this season, PSG will have to deal with RB Leipzig, Manchester City and Club Brugge. The group stage will start against the latter opponent on 15 September.
