The arrival of Mark Diemers was received with some scepticism by some of Feyenoord’s supporters. Theo Janssen, however, has no doubt whatsoever about the midfielder from Fortuna Sittard: the former midfielder, now working as an analyst, pokes in Soccer Studio the trumpet in praise of the Rotterdammers’ summer acquisition. He saw good things during the game with PEC Zwolle (0-2).

“Feyenoord played really well in the first twenty minutes,’ Janssen opens his analysis of coach Dick Advocaat’s team. Then he turned his attention back to Diemers. “He’s very good at finding the space between the lines. Diemers wants to play forward and also has a good technique. You can see that he always plays between the lines and I like that.” Janssen also makes a small remark. “He’s playing at a bigger club now, so maybe he’s more awestruck and more servant.”

“But I also think Diemers played a great game,” adds Janssen. The analyst then shows some images of Diemers’ performance in Zwolle. “Here you can see what a wonderful technique he has. I love it so much, you know.” Presenter Sjoerd van Ramshorst then brings up the attraction of João Carlos Teixeira. According to Janssen, however, changes are not necessary. “Just leave it there. If things go well you shouldn’t change too much.”

Colleague analyst Pierre van Hooijdonk is also complimentary about Diemers. “The best player at Feyenoord, Steven Berghuis, visits Diemers very often. Good players always do that”, said the former attacker of the Rotterdam club. Diemers was on the right side of a three-man midfield, with Leroy Fer and Orkun Kökcü at his side.
