Joël Drommel has not yet left a convincing impression on Kenneth Perez in his first weeks at PSV. The ESPN analyst was asked for his opinion on Saturday evening before the start of the Johan Cruijff Scale between Ajax and PSV and believes that the goalkeeper makes a nervous impression. To date, Drommel enjoys the confidence of Roger Schmidt and thus keeps Yvon Mvogo on the bench, who was the first goalkeeper for the Eindhoven team last season.

Drommel has so far played in all three Champions League matches and seems to have already won the battle under the bar. “I think Drommel will remain until the winter break”, Arnold Bruggink believes. “It is difficult to get him out now. Drommel has had little to do, except for that high ball against Midtjylland where he half dived under. The big difference at PSV is that with Drommel you don’t have to be afraid that he will do something. wrong with his feet. He chooses security now.”

Perez has not yet been convinced about the footballing aspect. Drommel was known at FC Twente for playing football well, partly because he decided at a later age not to continue as a field player but as a goalkeeper. “I think he’s way too wild when he’s on the ball,” said Perez. “He is a very good footballer, but I don’t know if he dares to take as much risk as Mvogo in the first games. It makes me feel that he finds it exciting to be a PSV goalkeeper, that’s why he just rams him at forward. There is also something in between.”

Mvogo received the necessary criticism at PSV last season in preparation, when in the eyes of many analysts he placed too much risk in his game in the build-up. The people of Eindhoven had to pay for that at the time with a number of goals against, including in the home game against FC Emmen and the away game against FC Groningen, when he provided Jorrit Hendrix with a bad play-in pass. Mvogo, who took part in the European championship on behalf of Switzerland, has so far had to make do with a role as reserve goalkeeper at PSV.
