Erik ten Hag continues to maintain that he has spoken the truth about André Onana prior to the lost cup final against PSV (2-1). The Ajax coach indicated that the goalkeeper had dropped out with a groin injury, but current first choice Maarten Stekelenburg suggested otherwise with his interview afterwards. Hans Kraay junior tries to get rid of the lie at Ten Hag prior to the home game with PEC Zwolle, which makes the coach visibly irritated.

There has been a lot to do about Onana over the past few weeks. According to The Telegraph the much-discussed goalkeeper was sent on holiday to his native Cameroon by Ten Hag, which was denied not much later by his agent agency Promoesport. A few days later, Onana posted a photo on his Instagram channel, in which he appeared to be convalescing in Amsterdam. Kraay jr. asks Ten Hag prior to the duel with PEC how things are going.

Stekelenburg unintentionally betrays Ten Hag’s lie about Onana

“He’s just back and training,” says Ten Hag. Kraay junior consults whether there is still perspective for Onana in Amsterdam. “He is a member of the selection”, is the answer, “but I now choose three other goalkeepers.” Kraay junior then tries – just like just before the cup final – to question Ten Hag one more time about ‘his lie’. Before that game, De Tukker indicated that Onana had dropped out due to a groin injury; Stekelenburg said afterwards that he had already heard that he would play before his competitor suffered an injury.

“I have spoken the truth”, Ten Hag pleads again. “It is a pity that some people are going to dispute that. Kraay Jr. will not let go, but the future Manchester United coach will not give in. When Kraay Jr. finally notices that there is nothing to be gained, he turns to the studio of ESPN† “We’re going to do some puzzles,” he tells Ten Hag. “Puzzle?” asks the latter. “Yeah, about what you mean. We’ve got some puzzlers in the studio.”
