Victor Jensen wants more playing time. The midfielder only played once this season for Ajax in the Eredivisie and has little prospect of a prominent role in Erik ten Hag’s team. In conversation with Tipsbladet, a newspaper from his native Denmark, Jensen keeps the door open for a winter departure from Amsterdam. As long as the Ajax player group remains predominantly fit, he cannot see himself breaking through.

“It’s a pretty difficult situation,” explains the 21-year-old youth international. “There are several reasons for this. We haven’t had any injuries for two months and the team just keeps winning. There are so many talented players in the squad. That makes me more in the background, but that’s not what I aspire to. “ambition to be on the pitch more often. I’m doing what I can and I’m training well, but it’s just difficult at the moment.”

“Ajax has almost become a top ten club in Europe. That makes it difficult, but I do my best and hope for a chance, if there are some injuries. You also take the experience as a substitute, you learn there too We’ll see what happens. I don’t think much about it right now.” His contract runs until mid-2023 and Jensen has not yet spoken to the club management about his situation. A departure is a realistic scenario. “The transfer window is not open yet, but it is clear that it is an option.”

At the moment, Jensen is focusing on his chances at Jong Ajax. He played only fourteen minutes in the Eredivisie this season, a substitute in the season overture against NEC (5-0), but played seven full matches for Young Ajax in the Keuken Kampioen Division. He has informed the club that he would rather play for the U23 team than sit on the bench at the first. “If I just sit on the bench, it really goes in the wrong direction. I develop by training with good players every day, but at my age I want to play more often.”
