FC Utrecht has captured Bas Dost. The 33-year-old striker, who was also coveted by FC Emmen, comes transfer-free from Club Brugge and has signed for one season in Stadion Galgenwaard. With the arrival of Dost, who had been in the Utrecht air for a while, the club is getting the desired ‘punching power and experience’.

Last week it became clear that the Domstedelingen were close to bringing in Dost and on Friday evening the bullet is finally through the church. The tall attacker will in any case play for Utrecht in the coming season and will provide trainer Henk Fraser’s group of players with ‘punching power, purposefulness and experience’. That is what the proud Utrecht writes on its own club site, where technical director Jordy Zuidam explains why the club is so happy.

“It is great to welcome Bas to Utrecht”, he says. “Bas is a winner, extremely driven, brings an enormous amount of experience with him and has shown over the years that he can score anywhere and anytime. Over the past ten years Bas has asserted himself abroad and now wants to he will help FC Utrecht achieve our ambitions. We are extremely happy and proud that we can add Bas to our selection.”

In a big interview with the General Newspaper Dost himself reveals that he had better offers than those from Utrecht. “There were clubs where I could earn much more, but FC Utrecht gave me the best feeling. The club is ambitious. They aim high and see me as their attack leader. Last season it didn’t work out, but if it goes well here with this fanatical supporters, you can experience something beautiful. I want to have fun again and Henk Fraser immediately responded,” says Dost about his new coach. “He made an impression on me. I didn’t know him, but that conversation made me feel good.”

Dost played for Club Brugge in the past two seasons, where he scored twenty league goals in 38 games. Before that, the tall attacker made his goals at Eintracht Frankfurt, Sporting Portugal, VfL Wolfsburg, sc Heerenveen, Heracles Almelo and FC Emmen. Especially in Germany, Dost was popular and acquired ‘Der Platfussbomber’ as his nickname. The 33-year-old striker also played eighteen times for the Dutch national team in his career and scored once.
