Marc Overmars ‘cannot deny’ that Owen Wijndal would be a good player for Ajax, says the director of football affairs of the team from Amsterdam in an interview with The Telegraph. Overmars’ thinks it can do business with AZ. “But whether I do that is a second question,” Overmars says still mysteriously about the possible arrival of the 21-year-old wing defender to Ajax.

“I cannot deny that this would be a very good player for us. A young boy, Dutchman and starting international. Starting off, otherwise AZ will be very high up again ”, Overmars says. Wijndal still has a contract in Alkmaar until mid-2023, but does not hide the fact that he wants to take a step next summer. The Telegraph Overmars also asks about Patrick van Aanholt, Steven Berghuis and Toby Alderweireld.

“You always look at top Dutch players, even though Toby is Belgian. To Dutch internationals who can be paid and make us stronger: that is the starting point when you get someone with experience. At the same time you look at young affordable players who can develop into top players here ”, Overmars replies. The technical person with ultimate responsibility at Ajax is ‘already very satisfied’ if he can keep the current team together and ‘maybe be able to make a move next year when the market gets going again’.

“I like to provide a fresh, new dynamic. But I don’t see us putting on the table an amount that we got Haller for. We look for it more in the category ‘with him we can get through another year’ and then I don’t even rule out renting ”, says Overmars. In the current situation, he cannot predict whether it will be a busy transfer summer for him. “It never comes to a complete stop anyway. I do prepare for all scenarios, because we are not satisfied with our current successes. We want more. ”
