Marco Rossi, national coach of Hungary, mocks on Instagram the elimination of Germany, France and Portugal in the eighth finals of the European Championship. Hungary took on the three mentioned countries in the group stage and finished as number four in the so-called pool of death. “See you soon at the beach!”, Rossi writes with the image in which he can be seen on the beach together with Cristiano Ronaldo, Manuel Neuer and Kylian Mbappé.

Hungary lost 0-3 to Portugal in the group stage. Against France (1-1), Rossi’s team played surprisingly equal and seemed to be going to stunt against Germany (2-2). Due to Leon Goretzka’s late equalizer, Hungary did not advance to the eighth finals, but Germany qualified. After the elimination, Rossi was already critical of Ronaldo, who scored twice in Budapest against Hungary.

“Ronaldo is a great champion, but can be very annoying at times,” said Rossi in conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport back to the meeting with Portugal. “After the penalty against us, he cheered as if he had scored in the final. That is striking. Not only with me, but also with other people.” The match against Germany lasted a few minutes too long for Hungary. “I noticed that they celebrated as if they had won the Champions League. We can only take that as a compliment. We have brought out the maximum in ourselves and I am proud of the team,” said Rossi.

Not long after the Hungarians, Portugal, France and Germany were also eliminated. The Portuguese went down against Belgium, while France was eliminated by Switzerland after a miss by Mbappé in the penalty shootout. Germany lost 2-0 to England on Tuesday evening at Wembley. Reason enough for Rossi to post the edited image on Instagram.
