Ibrahim Afellay finds it incomprehensible that PSV has let Lars Unnerstall go to FC Twente on a free transfer and has paid millions for Joël Drommel. The current goalkeeper of the Eindhoven team made an ugly mistake against Willem II on Saturday, as a result of which Roger Schmidt’s team lost 2-1. Afellay in turn sees Unnerstall goalkeeping in Enschede with great confidence.

Unnerstall was second choice at PSV last season behind Yvon Mvogo. Director of football affairs John de Jong let him go to FC Twente on a free transfer and transferred 3.5 million euros to the bank account of the Tukkers for Drommel. “When you see how easily they let Unnerstall go and you see him goalkeeping at Twente, you wonder why they made that change,” said Voetbal International editor-in-chief Freek Jansen on Sunday evening. Studio Football.

Jansen notes that Unnerstall was blamed at PSV for not being able to play football well. “Drum can do that, she puts it down everywhere. But it’s about taking these kinds of balls,” he refers to the mistake Drommel made in Tilburg. “Unnerstall keeps with confidence, he is now also starting to play football. He just doesn’t have long stairs,” adds Theo Janssen.

“A keeper who plays soccer is a nice bonus, but it’s about getting points for your team,” says Afellay, who finds it incomprehensible that PSV let Unnerstall go. “When you have your best goalkeeper at your disposal, how can you let him go on a free transfer and make a four million investment that doesn’t make you any better? That is incomprehensible to me.”
