There is a lot to do on Friday evening about two penalty kicks in the Kitchen Champion Division match between Willem II and SC Cambuur (1-1 at halftime). The Frisians took the lead after a penalty was used by Milan Smit, after which Thijs Oosting leveled the score from eleven meters.

Cambuur was awarded a penalty after five minutes of play, after Tommy St. Jago committed a minor foul on Agustin Anello. Commentator Sjors Blaauw immediately questioned the decision of referee Erwin Blank.

Reporter Hans Kraay Junior also thought it was a strange decision by the referee. “I thought St. Jago protected the ball well. Agnello lay down easily. There is light contact, but this is not a penalty,” the analyst said ESPN-program Football on Friday.

Kraay Jr. is then asked by presenter Toine van Peperstraten whether the penalty kick given before Willem II's equalizer was a make-up by Blank. This time the referee put the ball on the spot after St. Jago shot the ball from close range against Thomas Poll's arm. Commentator Blaauw couldn't believe his eyes: “How can you give a penalty for this,” he also wondered.

“Referee Erwin Blank is not looking too good, but on the advice of his linesman he gives a penalty,” Kraay Jr. explains. “If we are going to give a penalty for this, the KNVB must ask defenders to unscrew their arm if a shot is taken inside or outside the box. Thomas Poll keeps his body as natural as it can be.”
