Brian Brobbey says he learned a lot during his six months at RB Leipzig. The twenty-year-old striker left Ajax behind last summer to make the transfer to Germany free of charge. It was a disappointing period, with the low point being the 1-3 loss at home against Bayer Leverkusen in which he was already substituted in the first half.

“That’s right, I didn’t play much. But I certainly learned a lot. Also mentally. The fact that I was substituted once in the first half was not fun, but you take such an experience with you,” Brobbey points out in an interview with Ajax Life on his only base appearance in the Bundesliga, in which he was substituted after 43 minutes. “If it happens again, I know how to deal with it. How? At least I wouldn’t get so mad. But it wouldn’t be good if it happened again.”

“It was not a bad choice to go to Leipzig. It just didn’t turn out so well. But then again, I couldn’t see into the future either,” Brobbey says. After having played 252 minutes in 14 matches, the international of the Dutch Juniors returned to Ajax in January on a rental basis. “I thought I could keep up with the training right away. Better than last year. How did I notice? I could walk it all better. There I notice that I have become stronger in Germany. I trained well there.”

Brobbey played two matches (three goals) for Ajax for the time being, before suffering a knee injury that will keep him sidelined until early next month. “What will next year look like? I’ll hear about that in June. Until then I will stay here in Amsterdam. I’ve come to play a lot, but you have to ask the coach if that actually happens. I also came to have a good time and win prizes.”
