Arnold Bruggink is full of praise for Cody Gakpo after PSV’s late victory against PEC Zwolle (3-1). ‘s analyst ESPN sees that the 22-year-old left winger is a supporting force for the Eindhoven residents at a young age. “I think he’s a really nice player,” Bruggink said.

Gakpo only took the lead in the 86th minute for PSV. “He is a boy who is always there and who takes responsibility, today as well,” says Bruggink. “It’s rare that you don’t see him. There is so much threat in his game, in his dribbling, but especially his scoring ability. His kicking technique is so good, both with the right and left, he can always break open a game. I think It really is a wonderful player to watch.”

Gakpo himself is critical of the finish of his team. “We were better and we had a lot of opportunities, but he had to fall once,” said the attacker to ESPN. “Whether that has to do with creativity? Well, if they go in we’re all very creative, and if they don’t go in we’re a bit of a mess. I think we were unlucky too, and we had it at times too I could have played out a bit better. I had a lot of shots myself, but none of them went in, except for the last one.”

“Fantastic shot,” says Gakpo with a wink, as he sees the images of his goal. “No, no, a bit of luck. It was with the left, because I shot that ball with my right against my left,” said Gakpo, who slipped in his fortunate goal. The the Dutch international knows where PSV can still improve. “We have to improve to beat the opponent with a higher tempo. We were also unlucky that the first ball they got in front of the goal shot straight in, even if it was a fantastic goal. Then we run behind the facts and if something forced then it often doesn’t work.”
