Kenneth Perez sees PSV as favorites for the return in the eighth finals of the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. The first match was drawn 1-1 in Eindhoven last Tuesday.

“Is it crazy to say, now that we have seen Dortmund at work, that PSV is obliged to reach the next round of the Champions League?” asks the Danish analyst. Football talk. “I would be slightly disappointed if PSV does not continue. When I saw that boy with the ponytail in his hair, Marius Wolf, coming in, I thought: you should never lose from this in your life. Why? Because he is so freaking bad.”

“I also read a very funny story about Wolf,” Perez continues. “A German writer followed three promising youth football players for nine years, one of them was Marius Wolf. It turned out that he made it to the top by chance. That was quite a funny story. Wolf really can't do anything at all! He also came on as a substitute during a Champions League match with Ajax (1-3 loss) 3.5 years ago. Gosh, that wasn't good.”

Perez is referring to the book Der grosse Traum by Ronald Reng. The German writer describes how Wolf ended up at Dortmund by chance. By having the right connections, Wolf still got several opportunities at TSV 1860 Munich in his youth, even though he had actually already been written off. Wolf earns a transfer to Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga, but is soon injured there and develops glandular fever.

On the last day of the 2017 winter transfer window, Wolf, as a reserve player for a relegation candidate, suddenly gets the chance to sign for top club Eintracht Frankfurt. A fellow Hannover player tips his father, who is the technical director of Frankfurt.

According to the German writer, Wolf can handle the level partly due to a perfectly timed shoulder injury. He gains muscle mass, becomes one of the fastest players in the Bundesliga and earns a transfer to Borussia Dortmund in 2018. The right back has now played 112 official matches on his behalf BVB behind his name.
