Jean-Paul Boëtius does not have to undergo chemotherapy, Hertha BSC announced through the official club channels. During a urological examination, a tumor in the testicle was discovered in the Dutchman last Wednesday. Boëtius then successfully underwent surgery.

“We are happy with this positive news”, says Hertha coach Sandro Schwarz in the run-up to the meeting with TSG Hoffenheim next Sunday. “We have the hope that it will be similar with him (Boëtius, ed.) as with Marco Richter.” Just like Boëtius, a few months ago, Richter was also diagnosed with testicular cancer. He also did not require chemotherapy. Richter successfully made his comeback in August and scored two goals in four matches.

“Of course we would rather not have experienced it, but we now have the experience and know how Marco dealt with it,” Schwarz recently told kicker. “That also helps us to deal with this situation. As a symbol, Marco has become an example of how we have grown together as a group.” Hertha captain Marvin Plattenhardt also expressed confidence in a speedy recovery for Boëtius in conversation with the German football magazine. “We’re going to do it together. He will succeed! That brings us even more together.”

Boëtius himself announced on Instagram on Friday that his operation was successful. “The operation is complete and successful. Thank you for the heartwarming and uplifting words. I feel very blessed and privileged because of you. Special thanks to Hertha BSC and the medical team for all the help,” wrote Boëtius, who had himself photographed from the hospital bed with his signature smile.
