SC Heerenveen once again booked a victory in the Eredivisie after three games on Saturday. Thanks to a header by Henk Veerman, Johnny Jansen’s men won with difficulty from Fortuna Sittard: 1-0. The Heerenveen striker is not known as a head specialist, but has already scored three times with the head this season. That while Henk Veerman only scored the first goal in his professional career in February of this year. Heerenveen climbs to third place, while Fortuna remains thirteenth.

Heerenveen took the lead in the fifth minute. A corner by Joey Veerman landed at the first post on the head of Henk Veerman, who simply sent the ball to the far corner: 1-0. Three minutes later, the Frisians had the same concept in mind, but this time Henk Veerman headed just wide from the corner of his namesake. Fortuna Sittard was unable to counter that in the first half.

Shortly after the break, Heerenveen attacker Benjamin Nygren aimed straight at Yanick van Osch from the edge of the penalty area. Later in the second half, Fortuna’s goalkeeper also had a hard time answering a powder from Tibor Halilovic. Van Osch first boxed the ball straight up and then was quick enough at the ball to prevent the rebound from being tapped in on the goal line.

Fortuna became threatening when Bassala put Sambou wide on Toshio Lake, who hit the ball badly on the edge of the box. With a smart pass, Joey Veerman set Rami Hajal free for Van Osch on the other side of the field, but the substitute shot straight at the goalkeeper. A hard long shot from Fortuna striker Mats Seuntjens flew over Erwin Mulder’s goal in the final phase.
