Henk de Jong will be seen along the line again next weekend. The head coach of SC Cambuur is making great progress in recovering from a cyst in his head, so that he dares to take up coaching in competitions again. De Jong will also resume interviews with the press. Recently, the Frisian has outsourced these tasks to assistants Pascal Boseloos and Martijn Barto.

De Jong was struck by the cyst at the end of December. At the beginning of January he was told by the doctors that he could slowly resume his work, with the emphasis on ‘slowly’. “I will do less. No lectures, meetings or interviews and I will also reduce my telephone use,” De Jong said in a video on Cambuur’s club channels at the time. Bosschaert and Barto have recently been the faces of the press and the public.

However, head coach De Jong feels ready to take over those tasks again. “I’m doing well,” the born Drachtenaar says in conversation with Football International† “This is the next step and it feels very good that I can take it. I had a lot of trouble for a period, but I am now getting the right medicines. I still have to protect myself for some things, but at the club and in my family, I’m old again.”

Bosschaert and Barto guided Cambuur to a current ninth place in the Eredivisie ranking, which can count on compliments from De Jong. “They did a fantastic job. I am very grateful to them for that.” Cambuur will play at home against number sixteen Fortuna Sittard next Saturday. The Leeuwarders will hope for the ‘De Jong’ effect: Cambuur has not been able to win a match since December 10 (away from Willem II, 1-3).
