SC Cambuur will have to do without Henk de Jong for the rest of the season. The trainer still has too many complaints as a result of the cyst in his head, as a result of which he ‘cannot function at one hundred percent’. Cambuur writes that De Jong will focus on his recovery and health in the coming period.

De Jong had to stay home at the beginning of December after doctors discovered a cyst in his head. The complaints seemed to diminish, so that De Jong was able to partially return to Cambuur in recent weeks. Initially, De Jong left the coaching during the matches and the interviews to his assistant Pascal Bosrischt, but at the end of February the coach appeared on the line again and in front of the cameras.

However, the Cambuur trainer is now dealing with a relapse, which means that he has to take a step back until the end of the season. “We don’t have to make a sad story about it, because there are much worse things going on in the world right now,” says De Jong. “For me and for us this is very annoying, but at this level you cannot function only partially. Now I’m going to do everything I can to get back in top shape and then I hope to be fully there at the start of the new season.”

“As annoying as this is, Henk’s health is of course paramount and we have decided in close consultation that he will now be given plenty of time and space for this, explains general manager Ard de Graaf on behalf of Cambuur. “We also request that Henk be allowed this rest as much as possible and as a club we will discuss internally about the content of the technical staff for the rest of the current season.”

In any case, Bosschaert will take over the tasks of De Jong for the time being. The NOS states that he does not have the right papers to do so definitively, so it is not yet clear how Cambuur will fill the position of head coach for the rest of the season. The current number eight of the Eredivisie could report to the KNVB with the question whether Bosschaert could get dispensation to finish the season.
