Héctor Moreno returns to the Mexican league after a thirteen-year absence. CF Monterrey mentions the arrival of the 33-year-old center defender, who comes from Al-Gharafa SC from Qatar. Moreno left his home country in 2008 and played in Europe for PSV and AZ, among others. The veteran has 108 caps for Mexico to his name.

“I have grown a lot as a footballer in Europe,” Moreno explains on the Monterrey website. “It has been a great adventure for me, but the time has now come to return home.” The mandekker is eagerly looking forward to his first minutes of play for Monterrey. “As a player I am one hundred percent motivated. On and off the field I will display the colors of the club with as much pride as possible. The responsibility I feel is great, because I know that this is a great club,” said the still increasingly ambitious Moreno.

Moreno was snatched away from Pumas by AZ in 2008 and in his first full season in Alkmaar, the defender immediately captured the national title. In 2011, he chose Espanyol, and then returned to PSV in the Eredivisie in 2015. Also in Eindhoven, Moreno managed to win the championship in his first season. After PSV, adventures followed at AS Roma and Real Sociedad, before Al-Gharafa managed to bring him to Qatar in 2019. His contract there continued for another year.
