Jan van Halst believes that Anwar El Ghazi would do well to leave Aston Villa. The attacker did not get further than a substitute in the lost Premier League game against Chelsea (1-3) and he was unable to leave his mark on the game. The analyst says at Ziggo Sports that the wing striker ‘throws away his career a bit’.

El Ghazi came in the home game against the Londoners in the 76th minute for Morgan Sanson. At a 1-2 deficit, Aston Villa was under considerable pressure and manager Gary McAllister’s team was unable to force a breakthrough. El Ghazi was also unable to provide the desired impulse. After a pass from number three, he still had a fraction of time in the eightieth minute to fire on the enemy goal; however, the shot lacked power to outwit goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. “No, but in this Aston Villa team… They tried to strike with counter punches, but…”, Van Halst reacts afterwards.

“Do I not get the feeling that El Ghazi wants to leave?”, the analyst continues. “You would think so, yes. He then played against the Dutch national team during a good period last season. Then we were all surprised that he was not in the selection. Now he threatens to throw a whole period of his career away. Maybe another competition is best for him. Such a technical player actually belongs in a more technical competition. Spain or Italy maybe? No, wait: Real Sociedad! Yes, we will call them!” Van Halst concludes with a smile.

Last football season, El Ghazi scored 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances. The wing attacker was also in the European Championship pre-selection of the Dutch, but ultimately did not survive the selection. The current season is more unfortunate for El Ghazi, who only scored a total of 383 minutes in nine league games. In those matches, the former Ajax player scored once and provided an assist.
