Johan Derksen believes that Owen Wijndal deserves a place in the Dutch. The performance of the left back in the Eredivisie match between Ajax and AZ (1-2) made such an impression on the analyst that he would rather see Wijndal in the base of the Dutch national team than Daley Blind. “Blind is so vulnerable and slow,” said Derksen during Veronica Inside.

“By the way, I really liked that Wijndal very much”, Wim Kieft begins, referring to the meeting in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. He just kept going, but also how he played defensively against that Antony. Whether Wijndal should be a permanent international? Well that depends on how you play. If they play with five defenders, it’s better to have Blind as a footballing man. But when you talk about being complete, Wijndal is a better defender.” Derksen is much firmer and there is no discussion possible for him.

“I would always choose Wijndal. Yesterday you saw that he had offensive impulses, and he was back in time to stop the best right winger in the Netherlands (Antony, ed.). Daley Blind (in the Dutch, ed.) is only there based on his status, but he is very vulnerable. He lacks the speed and he cannot intervene hard. Only in possession does he have an overview and a nice pass. That is not enough for the Dutch,” said Derksen.

Wim Kieft also thinks Wijndal is better than the ‘wild’ Tyrell Malacia. “So you have three for the left back position. Die Wijndal had some difficulties in practice matches, but I think that Malacia is very wild. He wants to do everything at high speed.” Derksen concludes: “I really think Wijndal is the best: he has the most opportunities. Look, I have the idea that when he comes to the Dutch national team as a newcomer, he is seen as a bit of a beep. It is not easy to intervene, but he is the best.”
