Latest update:

John van 't Schip is moderately enthusiastic after Ajax's victory over FC Twente on Sunday afternoon (2-1). The trainer saw his team play a difficult first and a better second half, which ultimately turned out to be enough for the three points. Van 't Schip is particularly lyrical about two players.

After the difficult first 45 minutes, the coach decided to change course and implemented a system change. Before halftime, Ajax played with five defenders, but in the second act the Amsterdam team played in a 4-3-3 formation.

To make this system change possible, Kenneth Taylor was moved to midfield. The left foot started the game as a left wingback.

“We had to do something to change the energy,” says Van 't Schip about the change in setup. “Then you just make a decision to at least move Kenneth on, ed. Kenneth played a very good match, even in the first half, I thought.”

“In the second half he continued that good trend in a position where he has of course already played and where he has been important for the team. And in addition, we as a team as a whole have improved compared to the first half.”

Brian Brobbey

Brian Brobbey, maker of the 1-1, also played well as far as Van 't Schip is concerned. The striker was actually only allowed to play 45 minutes by Ajax's medical staff, but he was only substituted in minute 69.

“That was actually not the intention,” says Van 't Schip. “Fortunately, Brian was able to make good use of the minutes he was still on the field, including that goal. He was important, so I'm glad he played again.”
