Piet de Visser is deeply impressed by trainer Erik ten Hag. In conversation with the General Newspaper assures the 87-year-old master scout that the name of the current Ajax coach is ‘on the tongue of many top clubs’. De Visser, currently scout at Chelsea, also points out the enthusiasm of the coach.

“Ten Hag will be on the tongue of many top clubs,” says De Visser in the extensive interview with the newspaper. “Great club bosses want to be the best and they mainly look at results. Then you also have owners who want to do that with beautiful football. Ten Hag shows both and he has scored enormously with that abroad. In England everyone talks about Ajax in the Champions League and not in the Eredivisie. What Ajax shows in Europe, thanks also to purchases from director Marc Overmars, is unprecedented.”

De Visser is of the opinion that Ten Hag has not only achieved success because of his football knowledge and tactical insight. “I see a trainer who has developed very strongly by building his career and by being eager to learn. Ten Hag listens to others. He initially did that at Ajax as well. You should not ignore the wishes of top players, because then you are quickly seen by their influence. But you don’t have to be a lap dog either. It is important to convince them with knowledge and practice material. He is very good at that.”

“I have few doubts about Ten Hag,” continues De Visser. “That’s also because, in my view, trainers have to be a bit maniacal. He has that too. That drive, the continuous demand for improvement and pointing to lesser moments when Dortmund is beaten 4-0. In this way he keeps players with both feet on the ground. I’ve often seen players not being corrected and underperforming as a result. You should also not go too far in this as with Antonio Conte, because then your working method will have a shelf life. Ten Hag is also very aware of that.”

Although Ten Hag would be on the wish list of, among others, Manchester United and Newcastle United, the elector expressed his commitment to Ajax last Monday. The coach does not want to leave Ajax in the middle of the battle for the national title and the hitherto extremely successful Champions League campaign, he knows. The Telegraph. The capitals took the lead in the Eredivisie on goal difference on Sunday and are already certain of wintering in the Champions League after four rounds. Ten Hag believes in new prices with Ajax and will therefore not leave in the middle of the season, not even for the triple salary that United could pay.
