According to Kees van Wonderen, Ajax would do well to team up with Alfred Schreuder after this season. Tuesday made The Telegraph It is known that the team from Amsterdam has inquired at Club Brugge about the contract situation of the 49-year-old coach. Van Wonderen and Schreuder worked together in the past at FC Twente, of which the trainer of Go Ahead Eagles has fond memories.

“A lot happened at FC Twente after that”, Van Wonderen looks in The Telegraph back to the time when he served as Schreuder’s right-hand man at Twente. “That was not the best period for Alfred, but it was also very instructive at the same time. It was his first job as head coach and the first year he also did the trainer course. So much was coming at him. that we would compete in the top, but the club had to take a step back. There was a lot of criticism of the game, that it would be too predictable and cautious.”

Schreuder took charge of the Enschede team after Steve McClaren left for the second time. The Englishman was particularly successful in winning the national title in his first year. “It often simply has to do with the quality of the players”, Van Wonderen continues. “Alfred was trusted for a long time, but in the end such a fight is almost impossible to win. He is a very strong personality. Of course it did something to him, but he always thought in the interest of the club. If you look at his knowledge, way of working, enthusiasm and the baggage he has, then he seems to me the very best candidate for Ajax.”

Schreuder has gained a lot of experience in recent years and has worked as an assistant under Ronald Koeman, Julian Nagelsmann and Ten Hag, among others. “In terms of quality, Alfred is a top trainer,” says Van Wonderen. “In my view, he has also undergone an enormous development through his collaboration with Julian Nagelsmann. Together with Erik ten Hag, he has been decisive in the further development of Ajax. Even if you look at the way of playing and the fact that someone like Dusan Tadic comes to Ajax came, who, like Hakim Ziyech, for example, has a very good click with Alfred.”

Bert van Marwijk also sees a possible arrival of Schreuder at Ajax. The former national team coach of the Dutch would have liked to add Schreuder to his technical staff for the 2010 World Cup. “He is a coach who thinks carefully about the game and is very clear. “He has had excellent teachers with Ten Hag, Koeman and Nagelsmann and he has been head coach at FC Twente, Hoffenheim and Club Brugge. So he has made the necessary steps.”
