Karim El Ahmadi is not impressed by Edson Álvarez’s performance against FC Twente. On Sunday afternoon, Ajax lost 3-1 in the Eredivisie match with De Tukkers, who came to victory, partly thanks to a blunder by the Mexican midfielder. El Ahmadi states that Álvarez was nevertheless one of the best players on the side of Ajax in the past season.

Within a minute after the break and with a 0-1 lead, Álvarez inexplicably made a mistake. The defensive midfielder took the ball from Joshua Brenet around his own sixteen-meter area and had the opportunity to clean up, but he seemed to get a short circuit. Brenet took advantage of Álvarez’s failure to react and recovered the ball before making the decisive pass to goalscorer Manfred Ugalde. In the end, FC Twente ran out to 3-1.

“We have often praised Álvarez, but this is an experienced player who is not comfortable in the game,” says El Ahmadi, who looks at images of some of Álvarez’s major mistakes. “He lost the ball so often, while he is an experienced player. But he didn’t show that experience at all today. This was one of Ajax’s best players this season, especially without the ball, but today I thought he was very dramatic.” Kenneth Perez agrees with his colleague’s words. “It is not to be hoped for him that Borussia Dortmund was in the stands today.”

Álvarez is in the explicit interest of Borussia Dortmund, although according to transfer market expert, no official offer has yet been made to Ajax. The transfer from Edson Álvarez to Borussia Dortmund is not yet in the final phase. According to the Italian journalist, Álvarez is eager to make the switch to BVB to make. According to Ajax watcher Mike Verweij, the 25-year-old Mexican will yield thirty to forty million euros when he leaves Amsterdam.
