Damien Duff has strongly criticized Eden Hazard’s physical condition. The former Chelsea player believes that the Real Madrid attacker has been struggling with overweight for some time and strongly questions Hazard’s attitude. Duff is therefore not in the least impressed by Hazard, who has been continuously struggling with injuries since his transition from Chelsea to Real in 2019.

Duff, who spent three seasons with Chelsea in the past and won two Premier League titles with the club, believes Hazard has always struggled with his weight and should have put more effort into staying in shape after moving from Chelsea to Real. “He has never been a real pro and he has never had the drive like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo”, says the former attacker. RTE. “If he had had that drive, we could probably have put him in the same row.”

On Tuesday evening, Hazard came into action for half an hour against his former employer in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The winger was brought in for Vinícius Júnior by trainer Zinedine Zidane. Last weekend he got fifteen minutes of playing time against Real Betis (0-0). “You’d be worried about him in the future,” Duff refers to the many muscle injuries Hazard sustained this season. “He is thirty and we all know that after the age of thirty things go downhill in terms of physical condition. Especially for a player who depends on his speed and dribbling.”

Since his arrival in the Spanish capital, Hazard has struggled with injuries to the foot, fibula and hamstrings, among other things. In addition, he was hit by the corona virus in November. Partly due to the persistent injury injury, the routine has so far only 26 games in LaLiga on behalf of Real. “You could argue that he has always struggled with his weight throughout his career,” said Duff. “He turned out to be overweight after he went on vacation. I can’t do that. If you are contracted by Real for 160 million euros, you have to be in the shape of your life in the preparation.”
