It would surprise Max Huiberts if Owen Wijndal makes the switch from AZ to Ajax. The technical director of the Alkmaar club told this in an extensive interview with Football International. Huiberts does not see Ajax as a step forward and at the same time says he has not heard anything from the team from Amsterdam about the interest in the left back. Dusan Tadic recently gave in the Grab Scale Podcast to know that Wijndal would indeed be a reinforcement for the defense of Ajax, should Nicolás Tagliafico leave for abroad this summer.

Wijndal’s name has been associated with Ajax for some time, but according to Huiberts there has not yet been a possible transition. “I have been technical director of AZ for five and a half years and have never seen a traditional Dutch top club report for a player of ours,” said the technical director. “Let alone that an offer has been made. In the outside world this remains just an item, while I have never had to deal with it. Apart from that: why would Owen want to play in the Eredivisie again at another club? He is already playing All his matches for two years with great ease, very special. He has completed the Eredivisie level.”

Huiberts therefore sees Wijndal going abroad earlier, if it actually comes to a transfer for the international of the Dutch national team. The technical director does not understand that Ajax is seen as a step higher. “Here too there is pressure to perform and training is done at a high level. I look at the resistance at competition level and it is the same at both clubs. And Owen is now also playing in the base of the the Dutch squad, how much greater does the pressure from the Netherlands need to be?” says Huiberts. “It is often said that we will never sell in the Netherlands. What we have said ourselves: if you want to play at the top, it is weird to sell your best players to the club from which you want to win. Then you put yourself smaller than you want to be .”

In addition to Wijndal, Teun Koopmeiners’ name is also frequently associated with foreign clubs. For example, the name of AS Roma is singing around more and more. “Everyone is saying that there is a threat of another exodus. I have yet to see it all. No club has yet reported directly for a player of ours,” said Huiberts. “I heard Teun say on TV that conversations with a foreign club were going in the right direction. But I really don’t know which club he is talking about. They have not reported to me yet. And there are really three parties for a transfer These guys don’t just leave AZ either, they know very well what they want.”
