Arne Slot is very positive about Santiago Giménez. After the Eredivisie match won with RKC Waalwijk (5-1), the Feyenoord trainer says that he finds it special that the striker plays in Rotterdam, while at the same time the coach is counting on a lot of summer interest in the 21-year-old Mexican. Slot is also moderately positive about his team’s performance in the run-up to the match against AS Roma.

“They heard at halftime that the trainer was not very satisfied with the first fifteen minutes of the game,” says Slot in front of the camera of ESPN. “I thought that RKC was able to cross our midfield a few times too easily and that the remaining defense was not always well advanced. That also applied to the first ten minutes of the second half. Only after the 4-0 did it become the way I would like to see it again”, said Slot, who is very positive about Giménez. The striker himself scored once and provided the assist to Igor Paixão with a nice heel ball.

“It is already special that that boy plays football here”, Slot refers to Giménez. “Most people don’t know, but in Mexico you can earn more money as a footballer than at Feyenoord. That also says a lot about him and about the conscious choices he makes for his career to go to Europe and play football here. Then it is up to him to see how the rest of his career goes, because it cannot be ruled out that there will be a club left and right that says: gosh, she shoots them in easily and is still quite young.”

Slot also indicates that he is very much looking forward to the first leg in the quarterfinals of the Europa League against AS Roma. The trainer does not hide his desire to take revenge for the lost Conference League final, although he emphasizes that the players do not need any extra incentive on this stage. “We’ve had a busy schedule in recent weeks, so we haven’t looked at Roma yet. From tomorrow I will be very busy with it,” said the choice lord.
