Kenneth Vermeer will play for FC Cincinnati for the next two years, the Major League Soccer club confirms via official channels. The 35-year-old goalkeeper will compete with former PSV and Roda JC Kerkrade keeper Przemyslaw Tyton at manager Jaap Stam’s club.

Vermeer has signed a contract for two seasons, meaning he will remain with FC Cincinnati until the end of 2022. “We are always looking for opportunities to improve our selection and believe that Kenneth brings quality and leadership to our team,” said General Manager Gerard Nijkamp. “He has enjoyed success throughout his career and we feel this is a good addition to our squad. We are pleased to have Kenneth in Cincinnati and look forward to adding him to our team soon.”

Vermeer will be the fifth goalkeeper to have FC Cincinatti under contract. Tyton is currently the first goalkeeper under Stam, who also has Cody Cropper, Ben Lundt and Beckham Sunderland at his disposal. Maikel van der Werff, Jürgen Locadia, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Haris Medunjanin and assistant coach Said Bakkati are also active at the club. The season in the American league started in mid-April. Cincinatti is at the bottom after three games with only one point and a goal difference of -8.

Stam and Vermeer are no strangers to each other, as they played together at Ajax in the 2006/07 season and briefly worked together at Feyenoord in the 2019/20 season. The five-time Oranje-international played for Ajax, Willem II, Feyenoord and Club Brugge, before ending up in the United States a year ago. In his first, and later only, season for Los Angeles FC, he made fifteen appearances. In April he left the latter club.
